I was a bit late getting my copy of the book, so when I started reading it I had already read quite a lot of mixed reviews, so I was very aware that this book was not as widely loved as the previous ones in the ACOTAR series. But I really did like it a lot more than expected! It was so good to be back in the beautiful world that Sarah J Maas has created and to catch up with all of the fave characters like Feyre, Rhys, Cassian, Azriel and Mor again. In this novella we get to see the aftermath of the war in Velaris and the rebuilding of the city as well as some insights to the next installment, but most of the focus was on the inner circle preparing and then celebrating the Winter Solstice. There were also some new potential romances and some slow developments of the romances we have already begun to see, but I’d (of course) love to get so much more of that!
The book is told in alternating points of view, which was a new take that I really liked! It’s mainly told in first person by Feyre and Rhysand, but there are some chapters that are told in third person by Cassian and Mor, which made it much more interesting and added to the understanding of what they had been and was going through. There really is so much more to explore from the other members of the inner circle, especially Azriel! I’m so curious about his shadows. I also liked reading about Tamlin, even though it was mostly depressing. I have a feeling his situation is going to change soon. This book was so short it only took me a few hours to read it. In a way I would rather have waited for a “full” book instead of this novella, but on the other hand, I’m always happy to get into the ACOTAR-world and to get anything new to read… There are some things I did not like though: all the focus on getting Solstice presents made the story drag a bit, and the relationship between Feyre and Rhys was beginning to feel a bit like an old married couple spending too much time working and talking about doing it, but never really getting it on… But besides those minor reservations, it was a really fun and great read. Not near as good as ACOMAF, but still definitely good enough for me to eagerly await the next book in the series! (Especially after reading the sneak peek of the next book, it really got me intrigued!) Rating: 4 stars Get your own copy: Bookshop.org Amazon Book Depository Author info: Sara J Maas

A Court Of Wings And Ruin is the third book in the ACOTAR-series by Sarah J Maas. I thought ACOWAR would be a non-stop all-nighter read, but it actually took some time for me to finish it. It was a great read and I really, really liked it, but it was not quite as addictive as A Court Of Mist And Fury. The story takes off where the last book ended, with Feyre back at Spring Court and the threat of war hanging all over Prythian. The plot of the third novel is darker than the first two books, and the main focus is on the war. I think it was all the strategy planning and fighting scenes that made it a bit of a slower read for me. I also felt that it dragged a little in the middle.
But what I absolutely did love was Feyre’s development in this book. I liked her in the first two ones, but now I found myself really falling in love with her! She’s really grown through the series and she’s still badass, but more humble and has come to accept herself with flaws and all. I’m also so happy about Lucien being back more in the story, and about Feyre’s sisters. In the first book I didn’t like them at all, but they’ve definitely grown on me too. I especially loved the friend/foe-relationship between Nesta and Cassian. I have such high hopes for a “Nessian” romance in ACOFAS. My heart really aches for Tamlin too, even though he acts like total jackass for most part of the book. But after the stunt he did in the end I sure hope that Sara J Maas has something good for him in store in the next book. So, overall, I really liked this book and I’m anxiously waiting for a chance to get my hands on A Court of Frost and Starlight. When I read the first book I kept hearing that ACOMAF would be so much better and that I would fall in love with Rhysand. I thought it would be impossible, but no, turned out it wasn’t! ACOMAF is that good! Such an addictive, twist turner! And Rhys is that wonderful… I love that he pushes Feyre to make her own decisions, to be her own person and not someone’s pawn.
And the story is so full of action and tension, there is so much going on. And the twists! This is plotting at its best. I completely agree with all of you who think that ACOMAF is the best book in the series. I do have some minor issues though about how fast Feyre changed from being willing to give her life for Tamlin to despising him and I kind of missed Lucien (until he came along and I suddenly was happy that he had been left out, but I still have my hopes up for Lucien, that he will make the right choices in the end). And I feel a bit tricked. It was so obvious that Sarah J Maas wanted you to change from Team Tamlin to Team Rhysand that I really tried not to, but in the end it was impossible. I do feel bad for Tamlin though. I can understand why he did the things he did, and I kind of wished that he didn’t have to end up like the bad guy in the book. I have to say how much I liked the new secondary characters too, especially Cassian, Azriel and Mor. All their arguments and bickering made the book so much more fun. I also loved how they treated each other as family, looking out for one another and loving each other despite their differences. It absolutely blew me away, and showed me all what a fantasy read can be! I love the world-building and that the story is something of a Beauty and the Beast-story, but with added layers and intensity and characters with depth and flaws. The characters are wonderful and loveable. Feyre is this stubborn, rebellious and to cocky-for-her-own-good girl that you cannot help falling in love with right away, even though you feel like slapping her every now and then for her bad decisions. And Tamlin is so sweet and honorable, you just swoon. But my favorite is probably Lucien, I love his snarkiness and hilarious comments. Rhysand I’m not quite sure what I think about yet, but I’m sure that will crystalize itself onwards.
I love the fantasy world that Sarah J Maas has created. It’s so rich in details and vivid you can really picture all of it. I also love the slow build-up of the relationship between Feyre and Tamlin, how the story allows for Feyre to take her to go from fear and hate to slowly fall in love.
