The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is such as a lovely, unique and completely addictive read. It’s hilarious and romantic at the same time, and so fast paced. I finished the book in basically one sitting. From the very first page, the story just pulled me in and it was impossible to put it down until I’ve read it all. On the surface this is a YA historical fiction book about a young gentleman in the 18th century doing a tour of Europe before assuming the duty to take over the family’s estate, but from the very first sentence of the book, you realize that there is so much more to it. (That opening paragraph must be one of the best ever, BTW. How can you not be intrigued and immediately drawn into a story that starts like this: “On the morning we are to leave for our Grand Tour, I wake in bed besides Percy. For a disorienting moment, it’s unclear whether we’ve slept together or simply slept together.” Got me hooked at once!) This book is so much fun, so emotional and just… utterly wonderful! What was supposed to be a culture tour of Europe, turns out to be the adventure of a life time, with pirates, and a kind of mystery to solve. But even though the plot is really fun and adventurous, it is the characters that make up this book. There’s so much depth and layers to these characters.
The story is told from Monty’s POV. Henry “Monty” Montague being the spoilt heir, who has never been able to live up his father’s expectations or be the gentleman he’s supposed to be, but gets kicked out of all boarding schools and spends his time in gambling halls, with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men. But even if Monty is a selfish ass and an absolute privileged bastard at times, his sassiness and vulnerability just makes it impossible not to love him (even though you often feel like slapping him). And to hear the story from his engaging, sassy voice just makes it downright hilarious. And then there’s Percy - the love interest of Monty, and my absolute favorite. He’s just such a sweetheart. He’s gentle, wise and the rock keeping Monty at bay. I think their love story is one of the sweetest m/m romances ever, it’s simply heartwarming and gush-worthy. My heart broke a little every time he had to deal with racial comments and discrimination. But not to forget Felicity, Monty’s headstrong younger sister, who is Hermione Granger on speed.... She adds so much to this story! I can relate so much to her and how she’s not able to do what she really wants, as opposed to what society dictates she must do, but how she just ignores that and take up medicine studies on her own anyway. This book is a wild ride, that will make you feel out of breath and run over by a train at times, but also put a smile all over your face. It’s a completely unique experience that I recommend with all my heart! This book is simply amazing! Rating: 5 stars Get your own copy: Bookshop.org Amazon Book Depository Author info: Mackenzi Lee

The Raven Cycle is such a magically wonderful, unique and completely addictive series. It’s something of a paranormal romance combined with a murder, old-fashioned adventures and Welsh mythology. Sounds a bit strange when you try to explain it, but it’s so good! So, so good! All four books are completely addictive and fast-paced, and The Raven King was no exception. This was such a wonderful and fulfilling finale to the series! In this final installment, The Raven King, the story gets even darker than in the third book, almost creepy. There are demons, more dead people and intense blackness and danger. But most of all, there are such amazing characters and remarkable character developments. All the characters have changed and developed so much during this series, which is definitely one of the reasons why I love this series so much. Maggie Stiefvater is a master on making her characters into real persons, showing all their flaws and hidden feelings and desire.
I don’t want to give too much away about the story, since it has its twists and turns, and since it’s difficult to describe in a way that would even be close to do it justice. But it’s an amazing story about friendship, bravery, staying true to yourself and trusting your instincts. And the writing is marvelous, almost poetic of sort, with a perfect mix of reality and magic. And amazingly, the books just keep getting better and better throughout the series. Often, I find that the first book in a series is the best and you feel let down by the sequels, but this is not the case here! The story just increases in character development, action, feelings and intensity all until the crescendoing end. It’s like a modern fairytale set in a contemporary yet magical world. Maggie Stiefvater is a true storyteller who manages to make the book both so easy to read and so complex at the same time. In this third book in the series, Blue Lily, Lily Blue, the story gets darker with absolutely amazing character developments. I read the first book, The Raven Boys, about a month ago and was immediately hooked and ordered the three other books in the series right away. After a long agonizing wait for them to arrive, I binge-read book two yesterday and this one today, and am starting the last book right away. So I’ll probably read all three books in just two days! That’s how addictive and completely unputdownable this series is!

Maggie Stiefvater is a true storyteller who manages to make the book both so easy to read and so complex at the same time. In this sequel, The Dream Thieves, the story continues with great character growths in another sweet, unique and completely addictive read! This book dragged a little at first, but then it took off with a new twist in the love story and the increased focus on Ronan and Noah. Ronan really grew as a character in this book and from not liking him very much in the first book, I’m now his biggest fan! I’m also a huge fan of the new love twist (don’t want to make any spoilers) but Adam was never the guy for me.
What’s so great with this series, is that even though there is romance, it’s absolutely not the focus. It’s happening more or less in the background and is allowed to take its time. It’s a slow-burn, intense, real love story that adds so much to the overall story without taking over. Instead, focus is on the development of the friendship between Blue and the Raven boys. I thought ACOWAR would be a non-stop all-nighter read, but it actually took some time for me to finish it. It was a great read and I really, really liked it, but it was not quite as addictive as A Court Of Mist And Fury. The story takes off where the last book ended, with Feyre back at Spring Court and the threat of war hanging all over Prythian. The plot of the third novel is darker than the first two books, and the main focus is on the war. I think it was all the strategy planning and fighting scenes that made it a bit of a slower read for me. I also felt that it dragged a little in the middle.
But what I absolutely did love was Feyre’s development in this book. I liked her in the first two ones, but now I found myself really falling in love with her! She’s really grown through the series and she’s still badass, but more humble and has come to accept herself with flaws and all. I’m also so happy about Lucien being back more in the story, and about Feyre’s sisters. In the first book I didn’t like them at all, but they’ve definitely grown on me too. I especially loved the friend/foe-relationship between Nesta and Cassian. I have such high hopes for a “Nessian” romance in ACOFAS. My heart really aches for Tamlin too, even though he acts like total jackass for most part of the book. But after the stunt he did in the end I sure hope that Sara J Maas has something good for him in store in the next book. So, overall, I really liked this book and I’m anxiously waiting for a chance to get my hands on A Court of Frost and Starlight.
