What a wrap-up of the Four Packs Trilogy! The Final Salvation is the third and final book in this sweet m/m paranormal romance series following four werewolf packs dealing with a deadly disease as well as rising tension between the packs. The books in the Four Packs series could all very well be read as standalones, since each book focus on different characters and their romances and how they deal with the fight against the disease threatening to wipe out the entire werewolf population (a genetic disorder called ‘The Slow Death’, TSD). But I really enjoyed the extra dimension with getting to see the characters from the other books and to follow the increasing pack rivalry throughout the series, and would therefore recommend to read the previous books first, if you have the possibility.
In the first book, we got to meet Marrok from the North Territory pack, who was trying to find a cure for his friend Grady in the East Territory pack but ending up falling in love with the son of the alpha, Zander, on the way. In the second book, focus was on Grady and his fight against TSD and on Max who has been urged to move from his West Territory pack to be a donor to Grady. Now, in the third book, focus is on Luca Bassani, who has been identified as a compatible donor for Zander (the mc from the first book who is now the new East Territory alpha). When the hostility between the packs increases, and a potential threat on Zander’s life is uncovered, it becomes essential to keep his donor protected and the enforcer Diesel Jones gets assigned as Luca’s personal body guard. But the moment they meet, it’s clear that there will be much more to their relationship than a professional one… The story is told in dual POVs from Luca and Diesel. Just like the two other books in this series, The Final Salvation was a quick read, with a thrilling story with the hunt for a cure for a nasty disease and full of pack drama. There were a lot of emotions, and the urge to protect your loved one at all costs. Compared to the other books, the love story here was perhaps a little too much of instalove for me though. I know the mating bond is supposed to be a strong and instant force, but still, I would have liked some more build-up and that the forced-proximity trope would have been more explored. It also felt like this book was a bit shorter than the others and the ending with the wrap-up of the whole series felt a bit too rushed. But the epilogue more than made up for that and was such a great conclusion! All in all, this was a highly enjoyable and satisfying conclusion to this sweet mm romance series with shapeshifters, fights for life and death, and fated mates! This second book in the Four Packs series following four werewolf packs dealing with a deadly disease as well as rising tension between the packs was such a sweet and fast paced fated mates-story! In the first book, we got to meet Marrok from the North Territory pack, who was trying to find a cure for his friend Grady in the East Territory pack but ending up falling in love with the son of the Alpha, Zander, on the way. In this book, focus is on Grady and his fight against the disease (a genetic disorder called ‘The Slow Death’, TSD) and on Max who has been urged to move from his West Territory pack to be a donor to Grady.
This book could definitely be read as a standalone, but I loved the added dimension with getting to see a lot of Marrok and Zander and the overall story with the increasing pack rivalry that continued to build to a potential huge showdown in the final installment. The story is told in dual POVs from Grady and Max, and was so sweet and heartwarming. Grady has come to terms with his fate to die young in the TSD when at last a donor, Max, is found to match his rare blood type. Max on his hand, is not very happy at first to be told by his Alpha to give up his life as a lawyer in the West Territory and move to the North to be a lifelong donor, but accept his fate to save Grady’s life. What he didn’t expect though, was the effect Grady would have on him, nor to find out during the first transfusion that Grady was his fated mate. Compared to the first book that had an enemies-to-lover plot and more tension, this book was much lower on steam and angst, and focused more on the slow-burn romance and character dynamics in the midst of the rising tension between the packs. Max was such a sweetheart in the way he wanted to protect Grady and allowed him to fully recover to find out about the mate bond himself when being able to shift again. But eventually, the scheming of his own pack is revealed and Max is forced to choose between his family and the Alpha’s orders, and the love of his life. Just like the first book in this series, it was a quick read, but with a great world building, a thrilling story with a nasty disease and pack drama, and well written characters that kept me interested and entertained all the way through. I definitely want to keep reading this series and follow the story of the characters I’ve come to love, as well as getting to know new ones in the other packs too! Rating: 4 stars Get your own copy: Amazon Add to Goodreads Author info: BL Maxwell Nic Starr This first book in the new Four Packs series following four werewolf packs dealing with a deadly disease as well as rising tension between the packs was a fast paced enemies-to-lovers/fated mates-story that I read in just a few hours! The story is told in dual POVs and takes place in modern times, where four werewolf packs coexist with rising tension as a genetic disorder called ‘The Slow Death’ threatens them all. Marrok is part of the North Territory pack and is an expert of the TSD. When a friend of his who is part of the East Territory pack is hit by a new even more aggressive version of the TSD, he offers his help even though he knows the Alpha of that pack resents help from other packs. What he doesn’t expect, is the overwhelming pull he feels the moment he meets Zander, the son of the East Territory Alpha. Not only is Zander absolutely annoying, mating across packs is almost unheard of.
Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes and I really enjoyed the banter and sizzling chemistry between Marrok and Zander. The book was quite short, but the world building and the premise with the TSD was very well done nevertheless, and it kept me interested and entertained all the way through. I definitely want to keep reading this series and look forward to seeing the world building and the characters develop even further as it continues! All in all, this was a quick and entertaining supernatural read with a lovely MM romance full of hot banter, as well as a thrilling story with a nasty disease and the search for a lasting cure to save a friend.
